Oh the joys of teething! You don’t quite sleep, your baby is in tears, your heart breaks for him and you carry the weight of her tired little body close in the wee hours of the night… There isn’t much you can do to fully mitigate these growing pains but offer a safe place in your arms and stay calm.
I know many people swear by several things like amber necklaces and cold snacks. It’s just not always easy to grab these things in the midst of it all. Especially when like me, you lived on a desert tropical island and teething springs on you fast and you find yourself unable to step out and grab any of the popular solutions. I learned to mother with much less than most and I found my minimalistic approach to work. Sure, I missed some sleep, but I am happy to not be giving my baby over the counter meds or spending lots of $$$ on fads or gear.
There is a beautiful thing about teething, that’s the first time your baby discovers what teeth are good for. Like when they first chomp down on that cube of apple clutched in his hand. Or the moment he leans over and sinks his teeth into your cheek — or if you breastfeed your nipple, OUCH! Maybe I am weird but I marvel at my babies in those moments they explore something new.
I don’t mind being bitten playfully, nor does the mess of food-play make me lose my S%*# — I have Conscious Discipline® to thank for that!
I really enjoyed — and stayed present — when Ryuji enjoyed his Chia See Pudding. He’s been testing several foods for a few weeks, Avocado, Banana, Apple Chunks and today the Chia Seeds pudding — I tested it too and it was YUM!
So here’s my very basic, minimalistic…
Chia Seed Pudding Recipe
- Soak 2 tbs of Chia Seeds in 4 tbs of water (or Almond Milk/Coconut Milk)
- Leave to soak overnight or 20 minutes
Optional: add probiotic for infants ( I use Garden of Life Primal Kids banana flavor)
Optional: add 1 tbs of your choice of protein powder or nutritional shake (I use Herbalife French Vanilla)
Optional: add smushed pear, apple or pumpkin a pinch of sea salt or berries
Tip: I learned the morning AFTER that chia seeds are really very messy especially in a cloth diaper… so a tip would be to blend the pudding before you feed your little one, that way they don’t roll out of your baby’s diaper when you’re changing him… yep, that happened LOL!
I really like simple recipes with what I have in my home, so I’d use what you have to make this pudding special.
Let me know how you like it when you make it!
