It’s an exciting time for everyone with a creative mind! You don’t need to understand complex programs like Photoshop to create fun, fab and funny images that entertain, educate and inspire.
This is an amazing development because now more than ever people can shine their lights without HUGE budgets or waiting time. They can do it as soon as inspiration strikes — which is often not at your desk when you are working.
That means that more than ever posts, pictures and quotes are very unique because they capture a spark of joy, amusement or happiness — ME LIKEY!!
I am SO excited. I can finally see what some of my clients would create if they had the chance — and I have seen some delightful ideas come to life while they were doing life!
Yes, you will still need a good designer to polish and do elaborate designs for you— like your website, opt-in header, banners, flyers & logo — but for everyday use, you are at the steering wheel.
Here is a list just for you with 10 wonderful apps you can use right away to design quotes. I have included which platform they are for, I hand-picked a few I use myself on my iPad for my own quick inspirations as well as some other browser-based apps that make it for you — just add text!
10 Super Easy Apps You Can Use Right Away to Design Your Own Picture Quotes
I love this lightweight browser-based app. It packs a punch and is very similar to PicMonkey. The interface is different and so are the effects and overlays. I love popping in and creating fresh designs without the use of the usual PicMonkey options.
Fotor is free and also has a version you can install on your computer that allows you to add filters to your images, do basic editing and add text overlays.
My favorite way of using Fotor is to create quick collages — it’s funny but it feels faster than PicMonkey to me. I also use it to add text to large images, when I really don’t feel like firing up Photoshop.
A few great features of Fotor is the option to use templates for specific types of graphics like your Facebook, Twitter and Youtube Channel cover.
Canva’s mission is to help anyone become a designer. They offer the option to buy stock images at $1 and they have a million design elements — technically!
I love that there are just SO much to work with, unique layouts, elements, icons, fonts and it’s super easy — did I mention FREE?
I don’t use Canva as much because my browser is laggy. That is one of the drawbacks of Canva (and all other browser-based options) — they can get hang ups while you work.
I have slow internet where I work, and so I end up not using it as often. I love being able to get high quality images at $1 as opposed to having to purchase $20 credits at 123rf.com (my favorite place for images). It’s especially helpful when I’m in a pinch.
Pixlr Express (Web-Based/iPhone Apps)
My absolute favorite site because it offers three levels of editing. One very quick and fun another more elaborate and then there’s the muscle of the three. It has different image filters, stickers, fonts and frames.
I have used the different app versions and on desktop while working out of my office at a client’s establishment, on the go on my iPad & iPhone and I love how I can use it for anything I need.
Pixlr.com has a very decent editor that works very similar to Photoshop, at least the interface is very similar.
PicMonkey is the first app I reach for when I need to create my picture quotes. Because I can import my company logo as an overlay. This single feature makes it the perfect app for on-the-go design for Social Media Managers.
And it does SO MUCH MORE. I have seen work-at-home momma’s use it for digital scrapbooking to making ads for their blog. The Sky is indeed the limit when it comes to PicMonkey (there are even a few great classes out there).
Make your picture quotes with confidence — I also hear they will soon be releasing an app for phones. I know I can’t wait.
I highly recommend PicMonkey Royale, it has tons of really nice fonts and other epic goodies — they are key to unique, new & fresh quotes!
Photoshop Express Editor (Web-Based)
The best of Photoshop in one easy to use online app. It’s very easy to use and the picture editing capabilities do the trick. I used to use this editor to add little bits of text to my baby pictures back when I ran a mommy community.
I enjoy having several options to change it up and not create the same image graphics every. SINGLE… time.
Rhonna Designs (iPhone App/ Android)
If there ever was a cute as a button, elaborate, sticker filled app on the market — then it’s this one. Watch out because you will go bundle-happy and buy as many bundles as you can snatch.
They are a lot, believe me.
This app is amazing and it’s available on both iPhone and Android — EEP! I love the overlays, the fonts and the sparkle. It can get overwhelming, especially for me, I can spend hours lost on the app tinkering with designs — so use with caution.
It’s also perfect for digital scrapbooking on your phone. Just take the pictures, open the app and have fun making your unique creations.
This app is not free, starting at $2.99. You can buy overlay bundles at $1.99 — pricing may vary. The neat thing is they are constantly adding new bundles and they are cuter every single time.
Over (iPhone & iPad App)
If you are looking for a simple yet effective app to add overlays and text to your amazing pictures on iPhone or iPad, then this is the app for you.
One of the features I love about it is when you are editing you can switch out the image you are using. This is extremely useful when you create layouts and only want to change the image and text. Most other apps make this difficult, not Over. I use this app often to create my Essential oils recipes — it’s in my Mobile Design folder on my iPad along with my 4 most used apps. I always use it on the road.
I have to admit that I am turning into a bit of a mobile designer, with ideas hitting me at odd time and in odd places (like when I’m curled up in bed reading a great book).
Over is free but the fonts and extra fun overlays are not. Bundles cos $0.99 to $1.99, the options are also every growing. Over also ties in to an online community — you can use the app without creating an account, I never have.
WordSwag (iPhone App)
This app is funky, the fonts are fun and it generates those super fun, fashionable and oh-so shareable picture quotes with your text!
That’s right, WordSwag enables you to input text and have it randomly put in a fun layout. And you can play around and see which one you like. It takes all the thought out of picture quotes and that my friends is total freedom!
You can use your own images or the sample backgrounds, change the transparency and do a few other fun things. And if you are out of words… it even has suggested quotes you can use.
This is a super cute very easy to use and quite simple online picture quote generator for Pinterest. You can also save the image after you share it to use on your Facebook.
I like that the layouts are familiar to Pinterest and different than the other apps I usually use. I love to have options so this one is definitely going to get some use from now on.
This is another very easy app you can use to create simple picture quotes. This site is especially useful if you don’t have any pictures you want to use. It has layouts and depending on your quote it will give you layouts that will work for your quote length.
I like having that option, it’s just way easy for a day when the words are all you can come up with and you really just want to get in, post it and move on.
My personal favorite apps!
I personally use several of this almost every day — in addition to Photoshop which I use for design work.
My ultimate top 3 favorite apps are:
- Over (iPhone)
- PicMoney (browser)
- WordSwag (iPhone)
You will definitely find me using those and I have my Royale account on PicMonkey.
Do you have your own favorite app? I’d like to hear it and see what you’ve been making![beth]
